In the hallways, I struck up a conversation with a group of forest rangers. They are lobbying for a global policy shift in the next government term regarding forest protection. One of them showed me this video: https://bit.ly/3GbCF8h.
During a presentation, I took a photo of the screen. Quite disturbing:
The Director of Sustainability at Globa Chemical walked past me as he left the room. I wanted to ask him something, but I got quite a scolding! He told me to stop portraying him as "the big polluter" and constantly threatening him with environmental fines. He wasn’t against emission regulations for factories, but he believed there should be subsidies to help companies reduce their emissions. And that these regulations should apply to all businesses in Globaland, not just his!
Over coffee, I saw a heated debate between an environmental scientist and the director of Air Globa about an environmental tax on plane tickets. Apparently, world leaders are already discussing it. According to scientists, air travel in Globaland needs to be drastically reduced due to its extreme greenhouse gas emissions. The director was not happy about that—he almost punched him in the face!
At a debate, I recorded the following clips when the researcher was speaking: soundclip1 and soundclip 2.
Later, I heard a professor talk about a cultivated meat innovation fund, which they want to involve all governments of Globaland in during the next government term. Truly inspiring! Perhaps something all countries should consider including in their policies.
The climate summit was concerning but also inspiring.
The leaders of Globaland have a lot of work to do!
